Airfield Falls packs a surprising amount of variety into a small footprint — you get tall native grasses, natural limestone paths, little waterfalls, creek beds, bridges, wide-open sky, and gorgeous sunset light all in one walk.

Come early evening in October, the light filters through the trees just right and gives everything this soft, golden glow — no dramatic foliage required.

Best for: families with older littles, maternity sessions, couples, and anniversary shoots. Bonus: it feels wonderfully tucked-away, even though you're right in the city.

2. Murrell Park (Flower Mound)

Honestly, Murrell Park tricks people. It feels like it was airlifted in from somewhere several states north of Texas.

Tucked along Grapevine Lake, you've got forest trails, rocky cliffs, water views, big beautiful oaks, golden fields, and shoreline — all in one park.

If you want photos with an adventurous, timeless feel, this is hard to top. Golden hour here is chef's kiss — the light bounces off the lake and filters through the trees in the dreamiest way. And because the scenery shifts so much throughout the park, we can build a wonderfully varied gallery without walking very far at all.

Best for: couples, engagements, families with littles, and maternity photography.

3. Historic Downtown Grapevine

Sometimes you want something other than fields and forest — and that's where Downtown Grapevine shines.

Think brick streets, historic storefronts, cozy coffee shops, seasonal decor, and (later in the season) twinkle lights everywhere. It's warm, textured, and full of character all year, but especially in fall.

If you're picturing photos that feel more like a story — sipping coffee together, walking hand-in-hand, popping into local shops — this spot gives you that timeless, lifestyle vibe.

Best for: engagements, anniversaries, couples.

4. Eagle Mountain Lake

For a softer, lakeside feel, Eagle Mountain Lake is one of my favorites close to Fort Worth. In autumn, expect calm water, soft grasses, driftwood, open beaches, and that warm evening light we all chase.

It's especially great for playful sessions where kids get to actually explore and be kids, instead of standing still trying to hold a pose.

5. Marion Sansom Park

This one's criminally underrated. Marion Sansom blends wooded hiking trails with limestone cliffs overlooking Lake Worth, and the elevated views make for photos that feel way grander than you'd expect to find inside city limits.

If your family loves hiking or nature, or you just want something a little different from the usual park, this is a fantastic pick.

6. Tandy Hills Natural Area (Fort Worth)

If wildflowers are Fort Worth's hidden treasure during spring, Tandy Hills is the crown jewel during late summer and fall.

This protected prairie feels untouched.

Those everyday, unscripted moments are so often the photos families treasure most, years down the road. Truthfully, the location matters far less than the experience you're creating together while we're shooting it.

So... When Should You Actually Book Fall Photos in DFW?

A lot of families assume October is the only window for fall photography. Good news — our season runs way longer than that.

Here's the general breakdown:

• Late September — Warm evenings, tall prairie grasses, gorgeous golden sunsets.

• October — Comfortable temps with rich, golden light. This is our busiest month, hands down.

• Early November — Peak "fall feeling," with cooler weather and color starting to show up.

• Late November — Often the sweet spot: fall foliage and comfortable weather, right before the holidays take over.

Since weekends fill up fast, I always recommend booking your session a few weeks to a few months out if you can.

What Should You Wear?

Here's a myth I love busting: you do NOT need to match.

It actually might be better if you don’t!
